Few early decisions shape an app project as much as this one. There is no universally right answer, only the right answer for your product, budget and team.
Choose native when…
- Performance is critical (graphics, AR, heavy camera or audio processing)
- You need deep OS integration such as widgets, watch apps or background modes
- You want day-one access to new platform features
- You can fund separate Android and iOS efforts
Choose cross-platform when…
- You are building an MVP and speed to market matters most
- Your app is mostly content, forms, commerce or booking
- A single team will maintain it
- Your brand calls for a highly custom, consistent interface
Flutter or React Native?
Flutter renders its own UI, giving pixel-level consistency and strong animation performance. React Native uses native components and fits teams with JavaScript or web experience. Both are mature and used in production by large companies.
Hidden costs to consider
Cross-platform is not free of platform work: you will still handle store submissions, platform permissions and occasional native modules. Native codebases double some work but reduce framework-dependence risk.
Start with user needs and required features, then pick the technology, not the other way around.
